The Login Options article documents the login options available in Touchpoint.
Administrators may manage or assign new passwords in the Touchpoint dashboard at any time. If needed, administrators and their teams are in full control. Individual attendee passwords should be at least fourteen characters in length and are case sensitive. An exception exists for Universal Passwords, which may be six or more characters in length, but are case sensitive.
Options with a Pre-defined Attendee List
If attendee accounts are synced to Touchpoint from a registration system, or an attendee list is entered into Touchpoint, consider these login options:
Planner-Created Password
Administrators assign each user a unique password.
Before the event, a spreadsheet containing unique passwords for each attendee is uploaded. This password must be communicated to attendees via email, badge, or other means.
Advantages
- The option is secure.
- The option supports a simple spreadsheet upload.
Disadvantages
- The planner must communicate user passwords to attendees.
- The user has to remember an externally-defined password (though the user only has to log in once).
Attendee-Created Passwords
Each user sets their own password or uses a one-time-use password.
Before being able to access the app, users must request a password. Access to their email accounts is required during this process, as this is how the identities are verified.
Users can request a password by:
- OPTION 1: Opening the app, selecting “Request a Password,” and entering the email used for the event
- The email from donotreply@certaintouchpoint.com contains a “Set Password” link that the user clicks to create a password. The password must be at least 14 characters long with at least one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter, and at least one number.
- Users access the app and enter the created password.
- OPTION 2: Clicking a hyperlink to the mobile web version of the app, provided by the organizer, in an email announcing the app
- Users click the link and are taken to the mobile web version branded for the organization/event.
- Users select “Request a Password” and enter the email used to register for the event.
- Users receive an email from donotreply@certaintouchpoint.com containing a “Set Password” link to create a password. The password must be at least 14 characters long with at least one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter, and at least one number.
- Users access the app and enter the created password.
With both options listed above, the “Request a Password” email from donotreply@certaintouchpoint.com also contains an optional one-time-use password. This is an additional option that will allow the user to log in with that one-time-use password for 15 minutes after the request. Once authenticated, the user will not be logged out. If the password expires before the user logs in, the user may simply select the “Request a Password” link again to receive another email with another optional one-time-use password.
Advantages
- Secure
- Should be easier for a user to remember if they create their own password
- Easy to communicate
- Easy to manage
Disadvantages
- More steps for user
Universal Password
Universal Password is a single password for all users.
Administrators define a single password that all users may use to log in to the app. The universal password must be at least 6 characters long and is case sensitive. The universal password is set by Certain, so administrators must inform Certain of the desired universal password.
Advantages
- Easy to communicate
- Fewer steps for user
- Users can still, optionally, create their own password through the app. This will not overwrite the universal password.
Disadvantages
- Less secure
- User must remember an externally-defined password (though they only have to log in once)
- This option is not recommended if attendee-to-attendee messaging or editable profiles are used, as this is not secure. Anyone could use another person’s email address to log in and see messages or edit their profile.
Options with No Pre-Defined Attendee List
If there are no attendee accounts being synced to Touchpoint from a registration system, or if an attendee list is not entered into Touchpoint, consider these options:
Unlock Code
A single Unlock Code grants anonymous access to the app.
The unlock code lets anyone who knows the code into the app to see content. No email address is required.
Advantages
- Easy to communicate
- Easy for users
Disadvantages
- Less secure
- An Unlock Code does not allow interactive social features or personalized content unless it is combined with a secondary login option.
Self-Registration
Users enter their email address and name to identify themselves in the app.
This option does not restrict anyone from entering the app. If restricting access while enabling interactive social features is desired, it is recommended to use an Unlock Code as the Primary method and Optional Self-Registration as the Secondary method.
Advantages
- Lets you take advantage of interactive social features without a pre-defined attendee list
- Easy for event planners
Disadvantages
- Less secure
- Open access unless combined with an Unlock Code
Open Access
No up-front protection. Anyone can access the app and see content.
There is no up-front option on the app. The app is open to the public to view content. This option may be combined with optional self-registration if you want to encourage networking/social features for those who choose to log in.
Advantages
- Easy for users
- Easy for event planners
Disadvantages
- Least secure option
- Open access does not allow interactive social features or personalized content unless it is combined with a secondary login option.
