Managing a Live Poll from the VIP Portal

Audience

This guide is for speakers and VIP Portal administrators.

The guide explains how to manage live polls in the VIP Portal.

Access and login

Open the VIP Portal URL for the app in a web browser.

The VIP Portal URL is listed on the Event Homepage in the Touchpoint CMS.

Log into the VIP Portal with speaker credentials.

If a speaker password has not been created, click the "create a password" link.

Enter the email address to receive password instructions by email.

Poll discovery and opening the moderator console

After login, the right side shows stand-alone polls under "Poll Moderation" and sessions under "Speaking."

Click the poll title to open the moderator console for that poll.

Note: Each poll moderation link includes a megaphone icon.

Managing questions in the moderator console

The moderator console enables control over which question appears in the app and in supplemental views.

To advance to the next question, click the right-arrow above the question.

Then click "Display Question" to display the next question in the app.

To display a question, click the "Display Question" button and ensure it is ORANGE.

If the display button at the top of the screen is ORANGE, the setting is ON.

If the display button at the top of the screen is GRAY, the setting is OFF.

Only one question may be live at a time.

To activate the next question, select the next question from the question bank and choose "Display Question."

To edit an existing question, click the blue question text.

Edit in the editing window.

Click Save.

To add a new question, click "New Question+" in the top-right toolbar.

The allowed question types are: multiple choice (yes/no), rating, and open-ended.

For multiple-choice questions, indicate the correct answer by selecting the checkmark.

For Audience Q&A, use an open-ended question such as "What is your question for ______________?" Then click Save.

Displaying results and projection

To display results on a projection screen, use two computers, one projected to the screen and another to view the live poll moderator screen.

This two-computer setup is the recommended approach.

Alternatively, use one computer for screen projection and a mobile device for the moderator view to manage the poll.

Alternatively, use one computer employing split-screen projection so part of the screen is shared to the large display and part is used as a non-displaying moderator view.

Ask your audio-visual specialist for assistance.

Projection view URLs and session timing

Each agenda session with a Live Poll has a distinct and separate URL in the browser for the Projection View.

The Projection View URL remains constant for that agenda session’s Live Poll.

When changing questions and displaying them and their results in the agenda session’s Live Poll, the same URL reflects the changes on its Projection View with the newly displayed question and results.

On the projecting computer, go to the projection URL by opening the Live Poll moderator console through the VIP Speaker Portal and selecting Projection View under Supplemental Views.

Note: A different Projection View URL is required if an agenda session with a Live Poll at 10:00 AM has a separate Live Poll for the 11:00 AM session.

Adding a new question

To add a new question, click "New Question+" in the top-right toolbar.

Multiple choice (yes/no), rating, and open-ended questions are supported.

For multiple-choice questions, indicate the correct answer by selecting the check.

For Audience Q&A, create an open-ended question such as "What is your question for the speaker?" Then click Save.
