In all the options below, Touchpoint admins may manage or assign new passwords in the Touchpoint dashboard at any time, if needed. You and your team are in full control. Individual attendee passwords should be at least fourteen characters in length and are case sensitive. An exception exists for “universal passwords.” Universal passwords may be six or more characters in length. Universal passwords are also case sensitive.

Options with a Pre-defined Attendee List
If attendee accounts being synced to Touchpoint from your registration system, or you are going to enter your attendee list into Touchpoint, you may choose one of these login options.
1. Planner-Created Password: You assign each user a unique password. 2. Attendee-Created Password: Each user sets their own password or uses a one-time-use password. 3. Universal Password: You define a single password for your app for all users.
These options are outlined in detail below.
1. Planner-Created Password
You assign each user a unique password.
Before the event, a spreadsheet containing unique passwords for each attendee is uploaded. This password must be communicated to the attendees via email, badge or other means.
Advantages
- Secure
- Simple spreadsheet upload
Disadvantages
- Planner must find a way to communicate user passwords to attendees.
- User has to remember an externally-defined password (though they only have to log in once).
2. Attendee-Created Passwords
Each user sets their own password or uses a one-time-use password.
Before being able to access the app, users must request a password. Access to their email accounts is required during this process. Email access is how we verify the users’ identities.
Users can request a password by:
1. OPTION 1
- Opening the app.
- Selecting “Request a Password.”
- Entering the email with which they registered for the event.
- Users receive an email from donotreply@certaintouchpoint.com that contains a “Set Password” link.
- Users click the “Set Password” link to create a password.
- The password must be at least 14 characters long.
- The password must include at least one upper and lower case letter.
- The password must include at least one number.
- Users access the app.
- Users enter their email and the created password.
2. OPTION 2
- Clicking a hyperlink to the mobile web version of the app.
- The hyperlink is provided by you, the organizer, in an email announcing the app.
- Users click on the link.
- Users are taken to the mobile web version of the app.
- The mobile web version is branded for the organization/event.
- Users select “Request a Password.”
- Users enter the email with which they registered for the event.
With both options listed above, the “Request a Password” email from donotreply@certaintouchpoint.com also contains an optional one-time-use password. The optional one-time-use password allows the user to log in with that one-time-use password for 15 minutes after the request is made. Once authenticated, the user will not be logged out. If the password expires before the user logs in, the user may select the “Request a Password” link again. Selecting the “Request a Password” link again sends another email with another optional one-time-use password.
Advantages
- Secure
- Should be easier for user to remember if they create their own password
- Easy to communicate
- Easy to manage
Disadvantages
- More steps for user
3. Universal Password
You define a single password for your app for all users.
You decide on one password that all users may use to log in to the app. Each user uses this “universal” password along with the email address used for the event. The universal password must be set by Certain. You need to let Certain know what you want the universal password to be. Universal passwords must be at least 6 characters long. Universal passwords are case sensitive.
Advantages
- Easy to communicate
- Fewer steps for user
- Users can still, optionally, create their own password through the app.
- Creating a user password does not overwrite the universal password.
Disadvantages
- Less secure
- User has to remember an externally-defined password (though they only have to log in once).
- We do not recommend this option if you have attendee-to-attendee messaging or editable profiles, as this is not secure.
- Anyone could use another person’s email address to log in and see messages.
- Anyone could use another person’s email address to edit their profile.
Options with No Pre-Defined Attendee List
If there are no attendee accounts being synced to Touchpoint from your registration system, or you are not going to enter your attendee list into Touchpoint, you may choose one of these login options.
1. Unlock Code: You define a single “Unlock Code” to grant anyone anonymous access to the app. 2. Self-Registration: Users enter their email address and name to identify themselves in the app. 3. Open Access: No up-front protection. Anyone can access the app and see content.
These options are outlined in detail below.
1. Unlock Code
You define a single “Unlock Code” to grant anyone anonymous access to the app.
The unlock code lets anyone who knows the code into the app to see content. No email address is required.
Advantages
- Easy to communicate
- Easy for users
Disadvantages
- Less secure
- An Unlock Code does not allow for interactive social features or personalized content, unless it is combined with a secondary login option.
2. Self Registration
Users enter their email address and name to identify themselves in the app.
This option does not restrict anyone from entering the app. Anyone can create an account using an email address and name. If you need to restrict access but also want to take advantage of interactive social features in an app that does not have a pre-defined attendee list, it is recommended that you use an Unlock Code as your Primary Login method. It is recommended that you use Optional Self-Registration as your Secondary Login method.
Advantages
- Lets you take advantage of interactive social features without having a pre-defined attendee list
- Easy for event planners
Disadvantages
- Less secure
- Open access, unless combined with an Unlock Code
3. Open Access
No up-front protection. Anyone can access the app and see content.
There is no up-front login option on the app. The app is open to the public to view content. This option may be combined with either optional login or optional self-registration if you want to encourage the use of networking/social features which are available to those who choose to log in.
Advantages
- Easy for users
- Easy for event planners
Disadvantages
- Least secure option
- Open access does not allow for interactive social features or personalized content, unless it is combined with a secondary login option.
