If an email server filters out a message as spam, the email is typically quarantined and does not reach its destination.
From address and domain matching
One reason that spam filters block email addressed from an Application Service Provider (ASP), such as Certain, is that the From address is not using the same domain as the mail server.
Header and From header example
For example, if you customize the "From" to be eventplanner@example.com, the email still goes out with Certain's mail server's DNS host name (mail.certain.com) in the header.
Default sending configuration
To reduce the amount of email quarantined as spam, by default, all email is sent form our servers so that the "From" address is event_information@certain.com and the display name is that of the Registration Contact.
The "Reply-To" address will be that of the event's Registration Contact also.
Recipient experience and domain alignment
The effect is that email recipients will see the registration contact's name and email address in the "From" field, or the "To" field if they click "Reply".
But the receiving mail server will recognize that the email's "From" address is in the same domain as the sending mail server.
Lotus Notes caveat
Note: Some email client software, most notably Lotus Notes, may display the event_information@certain.com address in the From field.
Reply behavior
Despite this, when the recipient clicks Reply, the Registration Contact will show in the To field of the email.
Sending from a different FROM address
If you need to send emails with a different FROM address, you would need to reach out to Certain Support.
We can then provide you with information on 3 DNS entries you would need to add to the Domain of the email address you wanted to send an Email FROM.
After you or your IT team adds the necessary DNS entries, emails sent FROM that Domain in your event, will pass email security checks (DMARC, SPF, and DKIM), and should not be quarantined or marked as Spam.
