Live Polling
Live Polling with Touchpoint provides real-time feedback during events. No extra gear is required.
Speaker/Moderator Instructions
- The speaker or moderator controls the process by creating and displaying rating questions, multiple choice questions, yes/no questions, and open comment questions.
- Audience members vote and pose questions.
- A web-based moderator console allows you to view responses as they come in, decide when to lock questions, and display results to a projected screen and in the app.
Branding & Sponsorship images
- From the Pulse/Live Polls page in the CMS, select the “Design” tab at the top to view and edit the Live Poll branding and sponsorship images.
- By default a poll will display the app icon when there are no active questions.
- You can choose to set an explicit full-page poll splash screen that replaces the app icon if you choose.
- There is also an option to add a branded header image.
- The header image is displayed at the top of every poll question. For each header image you can choose a background color to display behind the image.
- It is best to use images which are much wider than they are tall.
- The example header image is 750px wide by 100px tall.
- The taller the header image, the more it will push your poll down on the screen.
- The full-page splash image is displayed in the center of the screen when there are no active questions. Square images work best for this image.
- The example splash image is 820px wide by 820px tall.
Get Started
- Go to the VIP speaker portal URL address provided by your conference planner. The questions should be set up using a computer browser.
- Enter your email address and password.
- If you don’t have a password, click “create a password” and enter your email address to receive a password setup link.
- After logging in, you will see a list of your assigned sessions.
- To create a new poll, select a session, then click “Create Live Poll.”
- This creates a poll attached to the session and opens the poll moderator console, where you can enter questions ahead of time or on the fly during your presentation.
Automatic Playback
For a hands-off approach you can use the Auto-Manage controls at the bottom of the screen.
- Click Settings in the bottom footer to adjust Auto Manage playback:
- Active Duration: How long the question is open for responses.
- Lock Duration: How long the question is locked for attendees but not yet displaying results.
- Results Duration: How long the results remain visible before the next question is active.
- When the play button is pressed from the Auto Manage footer, the Poll becomes active and begins playback from the selected question.
- The poll will traverse each question in order, making each question active, locked, and displaying results.
- The poll may be paused at any time, staying in the current state of the active question.
- The poll and all questions may be ended by pressing the stop button.
Manual Control
- Practice by setting up your first question. Click New from the top of the left-hand question list.
- You may create multiple choice (yes/no), rating, or open-ended questions. Create a question and save it.
- The created question appears on your screen to the right. To edit, click the Edit button at the bottom of the detail view.
- Click Active from the top of the view to make the question visible to attendees.
- You can test by answering in the Participant View (linked at the bottom of the page) or by going to the agenda session and clicking Participate in Live Poll.
- Notice how responses appear in the moderator view.
- In moderator view, you may close the question by clicking Locked.
- You may also show results by clicking Results.
- Check the Participant View again to see what will be displayed to participants.
- If you’d like, click the New button and create an open-ended question.
- Create a few responses by going to your Participant View.
- With moderation enabled (Edit the question to toggle moderation), you may click the checkmark to approve responses, the X to delete, and the bookmark icon to move them to the top of the list.
- To change the moment-to-moment display, click the question in the left-hand list and select Active to display.
- Great practice. You’re all set to poll your audience in real time.
Decide on Your Audience Display
- Attendees see questions and results in the app on their devices.
- To display poll questions and results on a large screen, open the Participant View of the poll in a web browser and project it to a large screen.
- You have several options for moderating and displaying the poll:
- Use two computers: one with the Participant View projected to the screen and another to access the poll moderator console.
- Use one computer for the screen projection of the Participant View and a mobile device for the poll moderator console.
- Use one computer with split-screen projection so part of the screen is shared with the large display and part is a non-displaying view of the poll moderator console.
- Ask your audio-visual specialist for assistance.
- You may also embed the live poll questions and results in a PowerPoint presentation. Click here to learn how. You will still need to manage the poll via the poll moderator console.
- If you choose not to display poll questions and results on a large screen, you may use one device to manage the poll via the poll moderator console. Your questions and results will still display on attendees’ devices.
